Remember, it is always easier to clean up a little every day as opposed to dedicating a few hours on the weekend - when you would rather be relaxing, or better yet, enjoying the outdoors. Here is a quick checklist to help get you on your way:
Kitchen
- Clean the inside of the refrigerator with vinegar to help prevent mildew.
- Use a box of baking soda to absorb odours.
- Clean behind and underneath all of the appliances, and vacuum inside the back panel of the fridge.
- Clean out the pantry, change shelf liners and throw out anything past its expiry date.
- Donate any good, non-perishable food you don't think will get eaten to a food bank.
Bathroom
- Use rubbing alcohol to remove the haze from older mirrors.
- Add a few denture tablets to hot water to make porcelain sinks and tubs shine again.
- Take any expired medications to your pharmacy for disposal.
Windows
- Wash windows when the weather is overcast to prevent streaks.
- Use newspaper to shine them up periodically.
- Clean blinds using a ruler wrapped in a cloth or put an old sock on your hand.
- Use diluted rubbing alcohol on window sills.
Furniture & Carpet
- Vacuum between and behind cushions and take them outside on a sunny day to air out.
- Freshen up any carpets by sprinkling baking soda and leaving overnight, then vacuum in the morning.
Closets
- If there are clothes that haven't been worn in a year or two, odds are they never will be. Donate them to charity.
- Vacuum floors, dust shelves and hang cedar blocks or a regular air freshener.
